A devastating attack took place in Mbar township, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving five young people dead.

The victims were attacked by suspected terrorists on motorcycles while traveling from the city of Mbar to the village of Koh.

The vanguard of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) condemned the attack and called on local communities to work with security forces to find lasting solutions.

“This is not to undermine or belittle the military's efforts. However, we understand the logistical and manpower constraints the military faces and require the active participation of local community members who know the terrain and can better assist with intelligence in identifying and exposing criminal elements in the communities.

“We believe that this can help us find a lasting solution to these attacks, which are often carried out by mercenaries with extremist ideologies who are always heard shouting 'Allahu Akhbar' while slaughtering residents,” the statement said.

They stressed the need to involve the community in dealing with threats and to provide information to identify and expose criminal elements.

The group expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and advised communities to be vigilant, defend themselves and avoid late movements to minimize the risk.

The recent attack has raised concerns about the security situation in Plateau State and highlighted the need for urgent measures to protect the lives and property of citizens.
