Trump reveals how he felt after hearing “Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop” during his second assassination attempt: “I really wanted to…”

After the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump on Sunday, Sean Hannity of Fox News spoke to the former president, who described the entire scene to him.

Former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, praised the Secret Service for saving his life after he was told no one was in danger, Hannity said, adding that the former president lamented that he had not been able to make a birdie putt. (AP)

Hannity claimed to have had three private conversations with Trump on Sunday.

According to the Fox News anchor, Trump heard the “pop” of gunfire while playing on his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, and was immediately protected by members of the Secret Service who used their bodies as shields.

Trump, who was evacuated immediately after the shooting, was concerned about the safety of others along the route.

The Republican leader praised the Secret Service for saving his life after being told no one was in danger, Hannity said, adding that the former president lamented that he had not been able to make a birdie putt.

Law enforcement officials said a man was arrested Sunday for attempting to murder Trump, the second attempt on his life in two months.

The FBI described the incident as an “apparent attempted murder.”

Ryan Wesley Routh was identified as the perpetrator and taken to jail, law enforcement sources told The Times, but the suspect's motive has not yet been determined.

Authorities say federal charges are almost certain to follow, but for now he will be charged at the state level.

Trump's golf partner speaks to Hannity

Trump met all of the Secret Service employees personally and thanked them, telling them “how much he appreciated them,” said building contractor Steve Witkoff, a key supporter who was with Trump on the golf course, according to Hannity.

“And then he [said]”I was tied. It was the fifth hole. I had a birdie putt. I really wanted to finish the hole.' So classic Trump if you ask me.”

Hannity reported that Witkoff and Trump declared they heard “pop, pop, pop, pop,” after which Secret Service agents pounced on the former president and gave him full cover.

“There were snipers with tripods. They knew the direction from which the shots had been fired. And they had a view of the spot from which the shots had been fired.”

Hannity claimed he was invited to play a round with Trump on Sunday at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, but he declined the offer.

After the event, Hannity also spoke with Trump's son Eric. He said Eric was somewhat moved and said to him: “My father is running out of lives here. How many guns are going to be within assassination range of my father?”

Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.
