Man arrested for control and assault

A man was arrested on suspicion of abuse of control and assault.

The man, in his 30s from Plymouth, was arrested following two incidents in the city on Sunday, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Officers said a man who was with a woman and two children at Sainsbury's in Marsh Mills at around 3.30pm BST snatched the woman's phone and told her she “would never get it back” before dragging her outside and attacking her.

That same afternoon, according to police, there was an “altercation” between the same man and woman on Derwent Avenue, in which a member of the public intervened.

The man was arrested on suspicion of controlling and compulsive behaviour, assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and has since been released on bail, officials said.

They asked witnesses to the incidents to contact them.

Police described the man as about 5'7″ tall, of a strong build, with red hair and gray sweatpants.
