27-year-old porter dies in accident

A 27-year-old porter was killed while his friend escaped with serious injuries in the fatal accident after their bicycle was hit and dragged more than 20 metres near Lily Talkies in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two youths on a bicycle were hit by a car in the area of ​​the Jehangirabad police station. After the collision, the young man was dragged 20 meters by the car. The driver then fled the scene of the accident in the car. One youth died at the scene of the accident, while the other escaped with injuries.

The incident occurred near Lily Talkies at 4am on Sunday. The injured youths were admitted to Hamidia Hospital in critical condition, where one of them was declared brought dead.

Police said they would examine video surveillance footage from the area to identify the driver who hit the teenagers on their bicycles.

On Sunday afternoon, Farid's body was handed over to the family after postmortem. The deceased was identified as Farid Qureshi (27), who lived in Jinsi area and worked as a porter. He went to have tea with his friends Shamim and Sohail. The three friends returned from Qazi Camp around 4 am after drinking tea. Farid stopped the car in front of Lily Talkies and went to the roadside with Sohail to use the toilet.

In the meantime, both were hit by a speeding car. Both friends got stuck in the bumper of the car. Farid was then dragged 20 meters. He died on the spot. After the accident, the accused driver fled.

Farid got married a year and a half ago and has a one-month-old daughter from that marriage.
