FULL LIST: Candidates for the 2024 Edo Governorship Election and their parties

Benin City, Edo State – The much-awaited governorship election in Edo State will hold on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

A total of 17 political parties are putting forward candidates for the election. 16 of them are male and one is female.

1) Iyere Kennedy (match)

Kennedy is an entrepreneur specializing in fintech, digital assets and exponential technologies.

Kennedy is also known as a human rights activist.

2) Tom Iseghohi (Action Alliance)

Iseghohi is a former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Transnational Corporation of Nigeria.

He is Chairman of Emerging Global Capital.

3) Udoh David Oberaifo (African Action Congress)

Oberaifo from AAC is a management consultant.

According to information on his LinkedIn page, Oberaifo has knowledge in wealth management consulting, strategy, real estate, mentoring, public speaking, and poetry.

4) Osarenren Derek Izedonmwen (ADC)

Izedonmwen was born and raised in Benin City.

Izedonmwen is an engineer popularly known as “Dized.”

5) Kingson Akhimie (ADP)

Akhimie unsuccessfully ran for the ADP in the 2023 general elections for the Edo North Senatorial District seat.

The ADP chairman received only 185 votes in the election, which was won by Adams Oshiomhole.

6) Senator Monday Okpebholo (APC)

Okpebholo was Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly.

In February 2024, he won the APC governorship primary in Edo State.

Okpebholo is said to be a businessman and an active member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

7) Osifo Isaiah (APGA)

Isaiah is a university lecturer and former Chief of Staff to former Governor of Edo State, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.

Isaiah is seeking the governorship together with his running mate Alhaji Bello Aneru.

8) Ugiagbe Odaro New Year's Eve (APM)

Sylvester is a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo State.

The gubernatorial candidate comes from Benin.

9) Areloegbe Amos Osalumese (APP)

Areloegbe is an accountant from Ewohimi in Esan South East Local Government Area of ​​Edo State.

He promised to rejuvenate the people of Edo State through modern governance.

10) Osiriame Edeipo (BP)

Edeipo is a key member of the BOOT party in Nigeria.

In the 2023 election, he ran unsuccessfully for the BP and was thus able to contest a seat in the Edo North Senatorial District. Akhimie received only 156 votes in the election.

11) Olumide Akpata (Workers’ Party)

Akpata is a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

12) Azemhe Friday Azena (NNPP)

Azena is a pastor and certified mass communicator.

The clergyman was born on December 25, 1979 in Okpella town into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Beatrice Williams Azena of Okpekpe clan in Etsako East Local Government Area of ​​Edo State.

13) Asuerinme Ighodalo (PDP)

Ighodalo is a lawyer from Okaigben Local Government Area, Ewohimi, Esan South East.

He was Chairman of Sterling Bank, Director of the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

14) Key Ndidi Patience (PRP)

Patience is the only female candidate in the race for Edo governorship in 2024.

She is a health expert, entrepreneur and influencer.

Patience is currently the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Chamber of Commerce, USA and Managing Director of NIDO Americas USA.

Previously, she served as Chair of the Board of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA), USA, and President of the NIDOA Maryland Chapter.

15) Anerua Abdulai Aliu (SDP)

Aliu, a fifty-year-old, is the holder of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

He believes that the SDP is the only political party that is free from bitterness and capable of changing the fate of the people of Edo.

16) Okungbowa Paul Ovbokhan (YPP)

Ovbokhan from YPP is an educator and life coach.

Ovbokhan is also a social commentator and entrepreneur.

17) Akhalamhe Amiemenoghena (ZLP)

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, Amiemenoghena would run for the second time for the office of Governor of Edo State.

In 2020, he was also on the ballot as a candidate for the ZLP.

Obaseki declares election a decisive issue

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo, declared the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state a “win-or-death affair.”

During his speech at the PDP’s final rally in Benin City, Obaseki insulted his predecessor, Senator Oshiomhole.
