Russian drone attacks target Kiev

Ukrainian officials reported on Monday the latest large-scale Russian drone attack on Kyiv, saying the attack was the eighth on the Ukrainian capital this month.

Serhiy Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration, said on Telegram that Ukrainian air defenses had shot down nearly two dozen drones over Kyiv, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.

Across the country, the Ukrainian military said on Monday it had shot down 53 of 56 Russian drones that were attacking several regions.

In addition to Kyiv, interceptor attacks took place over Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Sumy, Vinnytsia and Zaporizhia, the Ukrainian Air Force said.

The airstrikes came hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on allies to provide weapons systems and obtain permission to use weapons for long-range attacks on targets inside Russia.

In his evening speech on Sunday, Zelensky said allowing long-range strikes would allow the Ukrainian military to “destroy Russian aircraft at their bases.”

He said Ukraine awaits decisions on this issue from the United States, France, Germany and Italy.

The Ukrainian military carried out its latest attacks on areas along the Russian-Ukrainian border on Monday.

Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said Ukrainian artillery shelling hit a house and several cars, injuring at least eight people.

In Bryansk, officials said Russian air defenses shot down five Ukrainian drones. No casualties or damage were reported.
