Countryfile's Matt Baker gives update after his mum was trampled by sheep | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Countryfile star Matt Baker shared a touching update with his fans on his mother's recovery from her knee replacement surgery, which came following a horrific accident on the farm.

The 46-year-old former Blue Peter presenter has been a regular feature on BBC's Countryfile since joining the series in 2009. Over the years, Matt has become a popular character on the show, known for his captivating storytelling and passion for country life.

The television presenter was also a familiar face on The One Show, where he co-hosted with Alex Jones from 2011 to 2020.

Unfortunately, Matt's mother had a serious accident while working in the sheep barn in 2021. She was trampled by the animals, which resulted in a broken leg.

Three years later, the star gave an update on his mother's health, saying she was doing well and calling the accident a blessing in disguise. He explained that farming gets more demanding as people get older, so they have made adjustments for Janice to reduce her workload.

He told The Sun: “She's doing well and it's been a stroke of luck actually. Because when your parents get older you know farming is a really hard job and you just can't carry on at that level.”

“So we reduced the numbers and changed the breeds to animals that are easier for my mother to care for, because she's kind of the main controller there. So we did that and now everything is going great.”

Matt recently announced that he will be touring again with Janice and dad Mike for another season of Matt Baker: Traveling with Mom and Dad.

Speaking about the new series, Matt reveals that he had to “supersize” the concept of country trips due to the challenges of his parents' aging.

Matt told The Express exclusively: “We used to do these little trips where we would see how our wool was processed in the wool mills. So we basically expanded the concept of these trips into the countryside.

“And the key is that they're always close to home, because when you have a farm, you obviously can't go far away. And besides, with their father already 80 years old, it was never realistic for them to plan any adventure.”
