Man arrested for shooting during domestic dispute in Madison County, police say

A man was arrested in Madison County and charged with attempted murder after shooting his wife and her boyfriend and trying to steal a police-issued AR-15, police officials said.

Officers arrested 33-year-old Jared Boggs and charged him with attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, criminal damage, domestic violence, menacing, terroristic threats and attempting to disarm a police officer.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to a traffic accident and shooting in the 2700 block of Doylesville Road at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 12.

Investigation revealed that Boggs arrived on Doylesville Road to confront his wife, Hillary Snowden, and her boyfriend, Kurtis Smith. Boggs attacked Smith with his car and another parked car. Boggs pointed a firearm at Snowden and Smith when another man, Luther Lainhart, came out of the house with a firearm and ordered Boggs to leave.

Boggs drove off, but parked further down the street and waited until Snowden and Smith left.

As they did so, Boggs drove up to them and rammed their car, causing it to overturn into the creek. Boggs got out of the car, pulled out his gun again, and exchanged gunfire with Lainhart. Boggs went into the creek and gave the gun to his wife.

When Deputy Josh Foster arrived on the scene, he was informed that Boggs no longer had a weapon on him. Boggs approached Foster with one hand behind his back and threatened him. Foster gave Boggs several verbal commands, which Boggs ignored.

Boggs ran to the passenger side of Foster's patrol car and attempted to remove the police AR-15 rifle mounted between the seats, police said. When he was unsuccessful, Boggs exited the patrol car and surrendered.

Boggs was booked into the Madison County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation by Detective Josh Horn and Deputy Josh Foster.
