Stefan Raab's new fitness was of no use: he lost to Regina Halmich for the third time. After that, he surprisingly presented his new show.

After his renewed defeat against former boxing world champion Regina Halmich, 47, Stefan Raab, 57, announced a new show on Saturday evening, September 14, 2024, at around 11 p.m. While she emphasized after the third fight, “That was our last fight,” Raab let the cat out of the bag about his comeback: “I've decided I'll do shows again.” He then held a press conference, which was also broadcast live on RTL.

Stefan Raab announces new show after boxing match

In it, he revealed the title of the weekly show, which had already been speculated about in the media. “You won't win the million here with Stefan Raab” is set to start on Wednesday, September 18th – at 8.10 p.m. on RTL+. Raab explained that the show will last 90 minutes and contain everything “that I can do.” He promised competitions, quizzes, commentary on the week's events and music. Anyone can apply, and every week there is a chance to win a million euros. The challenge: He is trying to prevent that. “The candidates have to get all the questions right. All the games, all of them.” Elton, 53, will also be there for the start.

Five-year contract with RTL

There is more planned, revealed Raab. He has teamed up with the Cologne broadcaster for five years. In a press release published at the same time by RTL, it said: “This is the beginning of a collaboration between RTL and Stefan Raab that will last at least five years. Plans include various sensational primetime shows that have been developed by Raab Entertainment and for which the multi-talented artist will appear in front of the camera again at the end of the year.” In an interview with Frauke Ludowig, 60, Raab then revealed that he had been asked – and that he simply wanted to do entertainment again.

Since spring, the 57-year-old has been pointing out that, as a media professional, he knows how to create suspense. Since the end of March, he has been using enigmatic clips to arouse curiosity about his TV comeback after almost ten years – and so viewers speculated until the very end about what exactly would await them on September 14th. Raab said goodbye to his active television career at the end of 2015, and his last public appearance was at a trade fair in 2017.

There was speculation not only about what Raab looked like, as he was now training and getting fit, but also about what he was planning to do after the boxing match. In the clips he wore a cap with the words “NWSDWH” written on it, which caused a lot of speculation. On Saturday evening he revealed that it was originally supposed to be the abbreviation for the new show, but that the name had then been changed. The letters were even hand-painted on the cap.

Extensive review of Raab's career

Before things finally got going in the ring at 10.30 p.m., viewers had to be patient. RTL is first celebrating the presenting legend in the three-hour live spectacle “The Clark Final Fight”. Several retrospectives recalled Raab's funny and provocative actions on shows such as “Vivasion”, “TV Total”, spectacular events such as the Wok World Championship and TV Total Diving, as well as his music projects from “Maschendrahtzaun” to the Eurovision Song Contest. Celebrities from Markus Lanz, 55, to Udo Lindenberg, 78, to Thomas Gottschalk, 74, also paid tribute to Raab's career in clips. Michael “Bully” Herbig, 56, summed up: “For the sake of entertainment, Stefan went where it hurt him.” Raab's former show intern Elton, 53, who moderated the evening, stressed that “a person like that” is missing on TV these days. Commentator Frank Buschmann, 59, said: “Let’s have more courage and more fun on TV again.” Probably a foretaste of Raab’s new show.

Only after two hours did Stefan Raab appear

Around 13,500 visitors watched the show in Düsseldorf's PSD Bank Dome. Numerous TV celebrities also came, many from the RTL cosmos from “Bachelor” to “Let's Dance”. The eagerly awaited entertainer was a long time coming. At 9:40 p.m. Frank Buschmann said he hoped that the 57-year-old would finally make an appearance soon. Shortly afterwards, the boxing ring floated down into the hall from above – which was celebrated as spectacular.

“This is a first on German television and in boxing,” shouted the commentator. Then Regina Halmich came in to the song “Justice for the Queen” by her friend Doro Pesch, 60. At 10.10 p.m. Stefan Raab finally followed, walking down a long staircase, singing his new song “Pa aufs Maul” with Sido and shortly afterwards proudly showing off his new muscles. In the ring he survived all six rounds, but Halmich was ahead on points.
