Kansas criminal sent back to prison for brutal knife attack

According to the Kansas State Department of Corrections, Baskin is scheduled to be sentenced for criminal damage in 2023.

RENO COUNTY – A Kansas felon is headed back to prison after being convicted of a brutal knife attack in May.

On Friday, 26-year-old Briantey L. Baskin was sentenced to 620 months in prison for attempted first-degree murder, 41 months for aggravated assault, 12 months for aggravated battery and six months for criminal threatening, according to the Reno County District Attorney's Office.

The attempted murder and assault charges will run concurrently, while the assault and criminal threatening charges will run consecutively.

Baskin pleaded guilty to all four counts on August 15.

On May 9, police were called to 1st Avenue and Main Street in Hutchinson for a disturbance, according to a news release from Police Capt. Dayton Gates. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man with a cut on his body. Another victim reported being threatened by a man with a knife during the same incident.

The injured victim was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment. Police arrested Baskin in connection with the crime.
