Father charged with manslaughter in connection with fatal fall of 3-year-old in Brooklyn Center

Charges have been filed against a father whose child fell from the eighth floor of a Brooklyn Center apartment building last May.

According to charging documents filed in Hennepin County Court, Saleban Abdullahi Duale, 30, of Irving, Texas, is charged with second-degree manslaughter.

The allegation stems from an incident that occurred on May 18.

As previously reported, Brooklyn Center police were called to an apartment where a 3-year-old boy reportedly fell from the eight-story building.dow and suffered life-threatening injuries. The three-year-old was later pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by paramedics.

During their investigation, officers spoke to Duale, the child's father, and two of Duale's children.

Duale told police he was at his brother's apartment with the children, babysitting the children, including the 3-year-old. Duale said as he was leaving the living room where the 3-year-old was, the child fell.

According to court documents, Duale told officers the child was sitting on the back of the couch directly in front of the open window.

The child's oldest sibling, a nine-year-old, told police that Duale was lying on a bed in the bedroom and was not in the living room. He also said that her three-year-old sibling was pushing against the screen before falling.

Another sibling, an 8-year-old, told police that Duale had been on the phone all day and that they had not seen their father in the living room or kitchen on the morning of the incident.

Duale is not currently in custody; if found guilty, he faces up to ten years in prison.
