According to the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS), the rescue control center was notified at around 11.30 a.m. of a kite surfer drifting in a bay in the north of the island.

The sea rescuers immediately set out with the sea rescue boat “HORST HEINER KNETEN” stationed in List and discovered the man about 1.5 nautical miles (three kilometers) from their station.

According to current information, the 28-year-old had lost his board and therefore had no way of reaching the beach on his own.

The wind coming from the northwest and the receding water also caused the kite surfer to be carried further and further away.

The sea rescuers rescued the man from the water. Despite his wetsuit, his body temperature was only 32 degrees.

The 28-year-old was provided with warm clothing and taken to hospital in an ambulance waiting at the port – he was very lucky.
