Around 400,000 cases resolved in National Lok Adalat in Haryana | India News

More than 450,000 cases have been referred to the Lok Adalat benches for amicable settlement.

During the National Parliament session in Haryana on Saturday, around 400,000 cases were heard, including marital disputes and claims for compensation following road accidents.

Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA) organized the 3rd National Lok Adalat.

The National Lok Adalat has been organised in all 22 districts and 34 sub-districts of Haryana through the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) and has 167 benches for both pre-trial and pending trials, an official statement said.

More than 450,000 cases have been referred to the Lok Adalat benches for amicable settlement.

The purpose of holding the National Lok Adalat is to provide a platform to the litigants for amicable and prompt settlement of their disputes. The award of the Lok Adalat is final and in case of settlement in the Lok Adalat, reimbursement of court expenses is provided.

Surya Partap Singh, district and sessions judge and member secretary of HALSA, said that around 400,000 cases had been disposed of, the statement said.

In Karnal, a case of marital dispute occurred in the Lok Adalat.

A conflict arose between a couple who had been married for over ten years, which led to the husband filing for divorce, according to an official press release.

During the initial discussions, it was clear that both were emotionally exhausted. The court encouraged them to reflect on their shared past, their children and the potential for reconciliation. The couple have decided to withdraw their divorce petition, the statement said.

In Faridabad, a vegetable seller appeared in court. He had lost his job due to the injuries sustained in the accident. However, without concrete evidence, his chances of receiving compensation from the insurance company are slim, the statement said.

A crucial role was played by District and Sessions Judge Sandeep Garg, who took the help of an orthopaedic surgeon who immediately assessed the applicant's disability.

After some negotiations and persuasion from the court, the insurance agent relented and agreed to pay Rs 340,000 as compensation, the statement said.
