Princess Anne looked effortlessly elegant in a dark blue jacket as she toured numerous yachts at the Southampton Boat Show on Saturday.

The 74-year-old Princess Royal chatted to people on board the impressive ships after arriving at the water show, which takes place annually in the port city's Mayflower Park.

Princess Anne combatted the cold with a thick navy blazer, combined with a patterned scarf in shades of blue, red and orange and dark trousers.

For the late summer occasion, the Queen also opted for striking red and silver sunglasses and complemented her simple ensemble with stunning pearl earrings.

Her appearance came after she witnessed a dog competing in an international sheepdog competition being disqualified for biting a sheep.

The Princess Royal today took part in the International Shepherd Dog Championships at Syde Farm in Biggar, Scotland.

The sheepdogs that take part in the trials, which are held across the country several times a year, are expected to demonstrate the skills that working dogs need on a daily basis.

The dogs must perform a number of tasks, such as “retrieving” when the sheep are herded in a straight line. These tasks reflect their work in herding a flock of sheep (five sheep).

The dogs are not expected to bite a member of their flock, but one German Shepherd did.

The vicious participant was immediately disqualified because the competition rules state that dogs that attack a sheep without having to defend themselves are excluded from the competition.

This is one of Anne's first appearances since the princess stepped down from royal duties over the summer following an accident at her home in Gloucestershire.

Despite the violent confrontation on the field, Princess Anne walked across the stage with a beaming smile. Anne chatted to members of the audience as she was led through the stands.

This is one of Anne's first appearances since the princess retired from royal duties over the summer following an accident at her Gloucestershire home.

Princess Anne was hospitalized on June 23 after being injured by a horse while walking on her Gatcombe Park estate.

She suffered minor wounds to her head and her medical team believes these indicate a possible impact with the head or legs of a horse.

In her first appearance since the accident on July 12, the princess admitted that she could not remember “anything at all” about the accident.
