Crisis in West Asia: 55 rockets fired at Israel's Safed area, sparking fires

On Saturday morning (September 14), around 55 rockets were fired at Safed and the surrounding area, Israeli media reported, citing the military. There were no reports of injuries in these attacks.

According to a report in the Times of Israel, around 20 rockets were fired in the first rocket attack and around 35 in the second. Many of these rockets were intercepted, while others landed in open fields.

Rocket impacts trigger fires

Many of these rockets caused fires in Safed and the surrounding area, the report said. A short time later, Israeli military jets hit the rocket launchers in southern Lebanon, it said.

The previous Saturday, rocket sirens were heard in Safed and several surrounding communities, warning of an attack from Lebanon.

The Iranian-backed Lebanese Hezbollah group has been engaged in almost daily cross-border shelling with Israeli forces since the Palestinian militia Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 last year and the associated war in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli attack on Lebanese village kills three people

The rocket attacks in Safed came two days after the Lebanese Health Ministry said three people were killed in an Israeli attack in the south of the country on Thursday.

The Health Ministry said an “Israeli enemy attack” hit the village of Kfarjouz near Nabatieh, about 10 kilometers from the border with Israel. The attack “killed three people, including a child, and injured three others,” the ministry said, without giving further details.

A source close to Hezbollah told AFP that one of the dead was “a Hezbollah fighter” and the other two were “civilians.”
