SUV sinks in underpass in Faridabad, bank manager and cashier found dead

Haryana: A cashier and a bank manager lost their lives when their SUV sank in water in an underpass in Faridabad, Haryana. The national capital Delhi has been experiencing heavy rain and flooding for the past three days.

According to police, Punyashreya Sharma, bank manager at HDFC Bank, Sector 31, Gurugram, and Viraj Dwivedi, a cashier, were returning home in a Mahindra XUV 700 on Friday evening. They reached the old Faridabad underpass and saw that it was flooded there, but could not say how high it was.

When the SUV went under water, the two men tried to escape but failed. The police team reached the place immediately after receiving the information. Police recovered Sharma's body from the vehicle the same day, while Dwivedi's body was found at 4:00 am on Saturday after hours of searching.

Delhi NCR continued to experience heavy rain for the second consecutive day on Friday. The IMD issued an orange alert for Thursday and Friday.

Heavy traffic congestion and flooding were reported in many parts of Delhi NCR on Friday. Delhi NCR received light rainfall on Saturday. As per IMD, Delhi has witnessed 1000 mm of rainfall this month, the highest since 2021.
