Tragic loss: Two bankers drown in flooded underpass

Two employees of a private bank were killed after their SUV got stuck in the flooded underpass of the Old Faridabad Railway, police reported on Saturday.

The incident took place late Friday night when the victims, Punyashray Sharma (48) and Viraj (26), were returning home from Gurugram in Greater Faridabad. Heavy rains during the day had inundated the underpass and people were warned not to enter it.

Despite the warnings, an XUV 700 entered the underpass at around 11.50 pm and got stuck in deep floodwaters, causing water to enter the vehicle. Passersby tried to rescue the duo and eventually managed to pull them out. However, Viraj died immediately on the spot while Sharma was later declared dead at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital.

Inspector Samer Singh, SHO of NIT police station Faridabad, confirmed that the families have been informed and said the bodies would be handed over after postmortem.
