B Borooah College: Assam government invests Rs 10 crore in B Borooah College for future-proof education | News from Guwahati

Guwahati: The Government of Assam has provided an aid of Rs 10 crore and an additional plot for B Borooah College for infrastructure and academic development.
On the occasion of its 78th anniversary on Friday CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said India is emerging as the hub of next-generation technology and B Borooah College must act as a trailblazer to prepare its students for the future.
The autonomous college received the “A++” award from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) last October.
In a rapidly changing world where new academic programmes and scientific research works are coming up every day, Sarma urged the university management to adopt a collaborative approach and collaborate with leading educational institutions like the IITs on cutting-edge technologies and research works.
The Prime Minister said that given the changing dynamics of the professional world, students need to be equipped with multidisciplinary skills to make them ready to face the demands of the job market. The present education system needs to be keen to help students in their holistic development, he added.
He also advocated the introduction of modern teaching methods to build students’ skills.
He stressed the importance of providing competency-based education to prepare youth for the opportunities of the 21st century.
“As Assam moves forward on the path of industrialisation, the state needs a more skilled workforce equipped with technologies such as AIRobotics, cloud computing, blockchain, augmented reality, 3D printing, etc. to meet the increasing demand for such roles. The higher education community needs to align the institution with the new requirements of technological innovations and offer appropriate courses,” he said.
B Borooah College was founded in 1943 by the first Chief Minister of Assam, Gopinath Bordoloi, in the shadow of the Second World War and the nationalist struggle against foreign rule.
