After stabbing, former students of the O'Reilly School storm additional security forces

Some members of the O'Reilly Old Students Association have expressed concern about inadequate security measures at the school after an 18-year-old final-year student was killed in a knife attack.

In a conversation with GHOne TV, monitored by GhanaWeb, the association highlighted some major problems facing the school, particularly in terms of security.

During a visit to the school on Friday, September 13, 2024, they found that the school's current fence wall was not high enough to adequately protect the students.

They also pointed out that the security guard at the school gate was not physically fit for the job. Despite their complaints to the school administration, no action was taken and their concerns were ignored.

“We have asked for additional security personnel and for the fence wall to be raised a little for us. For security reasons, we had a security guard at the entrance but for some time now we have noticed that he is not very well. We have reported this and asked that perhaps he should be changed or replaced by an additional man but after the incident last week when we lost a final year student to a stabbing, we have not received any response on this,” noted one of the members.

They have now called on the government to provide additional security measures and build a higher fence around the school.

“We are here today to call on the government to help address the school's most pressing problems, which include safety issues,” he added.

Meanwhile, the association has expressed its condolences to the family of Edward Sackey, the graduating student who was stabbed to death by a fellow student during an altercation on September 4, 2024.

“The O'Reilly Old Students Association (OROSSA) would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” they said.

The suspect in the stabbing incident is expected to appear in court on September 19, 2024, after being remanded in police custody for two weeks by the La District Court.
