Congress claims BJP workers are responsible for MP's assault and rape incident – saffron party hits back

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Friday alleged that some BJP workers and their relatives were behind the attack on two army officers and the rape of their friend near Mhow in Indore.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, denied the allegations and accused the opposition party of creating a “wrong perception” on the issue. It also said the state government was very sensitive in such matters and the accused in the Mhow case would not be able to escape.

Two army officers were attacked and one of their two friends was allegedly raped near the popular tourist spot of Jam Gate, about 30 km from the Mhow military camp, in the early hours of Wednesday. Police have so far arrested three of the six accused.

Talking to reporters, MP Congress leader Jitu Patwari said, “It has been seen once again that whenever incidents like rape and atrocities against women come to light, the names of BJP workers and leaders crop up. In connection with the Mhow incident too, the names of BJP workers, their relatives and also those of relatives of other party leaders have cropped up.” “What message does this convey? It shows that the mafia and rapists rule and others indulge in such acts without any fear of the administration and the government. Since the names of relatives of BJP workers have cropped up in connection with the Mhow incident, I would like to ask (Chief Minister) Mohan Yadav: How is it possible that party workers in your administration have a free hand to do anything?” he said.

Why are people with links to the BJP behind all these incidents against Dalits, Adivasis (tribals) and women, he asked, describing Madhya Pradesh as the “most unsafe state” in the country.

BJP state president VD Sharma denied the allegations while talking to PTI Videos and said, “The Congress is trying to create a wrong perception of the issue. There is a BJP government in the state… If any sex offender or pervert is involved in such crimes, then he must know that there is a government led by Mohan Yadav which is very sensitive. It will not spare such persons for a second.” “The BJP government has ensured that such persons are imprisoned and given death penalty as per the law. They will not be able to escape,” he said.

He accused the Congress party of spreading lies and said the BJP government was sensitive in such matters.
