Woman allegedly tried to stab roommate, arrested for grievous bodily harm, police say

A Lansdale woman has been charged with aggravated assault for attempting to stab her roommate during an incident on Walnut Street Tuesday night.

Jane Ann McMillin, 56, of the 600 block of Walnut Street, was also charged Tuesday with petty possession of a murder weapon, simple assault and reckless endangerment, court records show.

According to court records, McMillin is free on bail of 10 percent of the $5,000 posted Wednesday.

On Tuesday at 8:07 p.m., police responded to a report of an armed person in the 600 block of Walnut Street in Lansdale Borough. Police said a witness and a caller reported that a roommate named McMillin was armed with a knife and refused to separate from another roommate in the apartment.

When police arrived, they found McMillin outside the house talking with roommates. One of the victims told police McMillin attacked her with a kitchen or butcher knife while she was watching television, police said.

According to the prosecution, McMillin came from behind and made two quick stabbing movements with the knife before the victim turned around and tried to knock the knife out of McMillin's hand.

Another witness told police in an affidavit that McMillin came down the stairs, into the kitchen and then into the living room with the knife in his right hand.

With the knife in her hand, McMillin made two “consecutive, downward stabbing motions toward the victim's head and neck,” the indictment states.

According to police, McMillin was unable to stab the victim, but instead stabbed the knife into the fabric and upholstery of the sofa.

The victim turned around and got into a hand-to-hand fight with McMillin, police said. McMillin eventually pushed the defendant against the wall and slammed her wrist against it to knock the knife out of her hand.

The knife, according to the police, fell to the floor. A McCook brand kitchen knife was found on the living room floor, according to the police.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 30 at 10 a.m. before District Judge Edward Levine.

According to court records, McMillin is awaiting two trials in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court following two separate arrests by Lansdale police – one arrest in June 2023 charged her with five minor counts of DUI, and one arrest in May 2023 charged her with four minor counts of DUI.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled from public court records.
