Novice driver (18) dies in accident in Biberach

An 18-year-old driver was killed in a tragic accident in Biberach. The novice driver skidded on a wet road and slid into the oncoming lane. There, another driver collided with him.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the 18-year-old was driving his Renault Twingo on the B312 from Biberach towards the Ringschnait district. In a left-hand bend with a slight gradient, the car skidded on the wet road. The small car turned sideways and ended up in the oncoming lane. A 56-year-old was driving his Mercedes there.

Mercedes power in a small car

The Mercedes collided head-on with the right side of the Renault. The violent collision threw the small car off the road and landed in a ditch. Despite immediate first aid and resuscitation measures, the novice driver died at the scene of the accident, according to police. The 57-year-old Mercedes driver only suffered minor injuries. The emergency services took him to a hospital. As the police further report, both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Federal highway closed for two hours

The fire brigade was on site with 35 emergency personnel and closed the road. The firefighters also dealt with leaked operating fluids. Federal Highway 312 had to be completely closed for the duration of the operation until 7 p.m. In addition to two rescue vehicles, a rescue helicopter was also deployed. The Laupheim traffic service recorded the accident. The investigators are now clarifying the exact course of events and are looking for witnesses.
