Chappell Roan loves her family.

After rising to fame this summer with hits like “Good Luck, Babe!” and “HOT TO GO!”, Roan secured multiple nominations for the 2024 MTV VMAs.

During the awards ceremony, she won her first VMA for Best New Artist, beating Tyla, Benson Boone, Gracie Abrams and other stars in the category.

During her concerts, Roan often called out to her mother, Kara Amstutz.

On TikTok, a fan posted a video of Roan singing to her mother while performing on stage. In another clip, Roan then happily shared with her fans some dating advice her mother once gave her.

“You can't sleep with them before the third date. You can't wear red lipstick because that means something,” she said during one of her performances, imitating her mother.

“…And I just say, 'Mom, I love you. But that's not how dating a girl works.'”

On TikTok, fans praised Roan's relationship with her mother.

“I can't imagine how happy it must make her to have her mom at her shows 💖,” one person said.

Another said: “Her mum must be holding back her tears because I am! She is magical ✨.”

A third added: “I'm crying because her mother must be so proud to see her daughter growing up to be such an icon.”

Roan also gave her mom a shout out on Instagram. For Mother's Day 2023, she shared some old photos of them together and wrote, “Happy Mother's Day my sweet angel of a mother, I love you so much.”

Dwight Amstutz

Just like her mother, Roan has a close relationship with her father.

In 2022, she thanked him for allowing her to decorate his dirt bike for a “Femininomenon” photo shoot in his backyard.

“Thank you to my lovely dad for letting me decorate his dirt bike. 💖,” she wrote. “Femininomenon was so much fun to create. I'm so thankful to my friends who once again helped me pull it off. Who flew all the way to Missouri to shoot in my parent's backyard.”

However, Roan openly admitted that her rise to fame was also a challenge for her parents.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Roan spoke about her sudden success. She revealed that she was stalked by someone who showed up unannounced at her parents' house and followed her to her hotel room. She also said that someone once gave out her father's home phone number.

“So now I have to provide security,” she said. “This is so lame.”
