Ewan McGregor hopes he can play Obi-Wan Kenobi again

In 2019, after many rumors and hints, the news finally became official: Ewan McGregor would return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, the character he played in the star Wars Prequels, in a Disney+ series created around the character's backstory.A new hope Time on Tatooine. And although McGregor – who spoke to Variety on the occasion of his star being inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame – has no news to report in this regard, he does speak about Obi-Wan Kenobi in the present tense. “I loved getting to know Alec Guinness' work more than anything because I played him as a young man,” McGregor told the trade magazine. “Even now with the series, that's my personal challenge – if a shot feels a little bit like him, I'm happy.”

His time as Obi-Wan dates back to 1999. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menacebut it sounds like McGregor is ready to explore the character further. (At 53, he is almost a decade younger than Guinness in A new hope.) “I really hope we get a chance to do another one,” he told Variety. “Between the end of the series and the time when Alec Guinness is on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there are a few more stories to tell.”

Hayden Christenen, whose tenure as Obi-Wan's famous partner Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader began in 2002 Attack of the Clones and most recently in 2023 Ahsokawould love to work with McGregor again. “If that means I get to do more with Ewan then that's a no-brainer, but I really hope he continues with the character. As a fan, it's so exciting to watch him play Obi-Wan – he's just so good at it.”

If a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi seems unlikely at this point, it's worth remembering that there's also been no official announcement regarding the future of the show – something Lucasfilm and Disney+ have not been shy about, to give another example. star Wars Show, which recently concluded Acolyte.
