New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the attack on a young army officer and his friend and the alleged sexual assault on her friend in Indore district were a disgrace to society.

In a post on X, Gandhi said: “The violence against two soldiers and the rape of their companion in Madhya Pradesh is enough to bring shame to the entire society.”

He further said that the audacity of these criminals was the result of the government's utter failure, adding that there was virtually no law and order in the BJP-ruled states.

No peace and order in BJP states
“Public order is virtually non-existent in BJP-ruled states and the negative attitude of the BJP government towards the increasing number of crimes against women is extremely worrying. The audacity of these criminals is the result of the utter failure of the government and this increasingly unsafe environment in the country is curtailing the freedom and aspirations of the daughters of India,” the Congress leader added in his post.

Police officials said today that they had arrested two people in connection with the attack on a young army officer and his friend.
