After 42 hours of intense protests, demonstrations outside Swasthya Bhaban in response to the tragic death of a doctor continue. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called an administrative meeting in Nabanna to discuss the escalating situation.

In a related development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted a lie detector test on Sanjay Roy in connection with the rape and murder case that has rocked Kolkata. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted search operations at five locations to probe financial irregularities related to RG Kar Hospital.

New revelations have come to light about the procedure of the forensic examination at RG Kar Hospital. It has come to light that on August 9 – the day the body was recovered – key forensic personnel, including the head of the Kolkata Police Mobile Forensic Unit and the deputy director of the State Forensic Laboratory, were present at the State Forensic Laboratory in Belgachia but did not turn up at the crime scene. Instead, two lower-ranking personnel and two volunteers were sent. Sources claim that this team did not handle the crime scene properly, failed to remove the shroud and officially document the sample collection on video.

The ED has also implicated Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in a massive corruption scandal estimated at Rs 200 crore.

Further details are awaited.
