Brewers vs Giants: Predictions, Tips, Odds – 9-11

With Blake Snell pitching exceptionally well for San Francisco down the stretch, we expect the Cy Young Award-winning left-hander to dominate on the mound against Milwaukee at Oracle Park.

My analysis

The Milwaukee Brewers are handing the ball to right-hander Colin Rea on Wednesday, and he should be a good candidate to be traded at a high price. Although Rea has a 3.72 ERA in 27 appearances on the mound this season, his underlying numbers suggest a decline is imminent.

The right-hander has a 4.97 xERA and ranks in the bottom third of the league in xBA, strikeout rate and barrel rate. That expected decline will likely come to fruition against the San Francisco Giants, a team against which Rea is 1-2 with a 5.29 ERA in three career games.

Meanwhile, left-hander Blake Snell is on the mound for San Francisco. Snell is one of the best pitchers in the league and has a 3.62 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP in 17 starts this year.

His analytics are even better, as the left-hander has a 2.79 xERA and ranks in the 94th percentile or higher in xBA, average exit velocity and hard hit rate. Snell has entered this matchup in particularly dominant form, allowing two or fewer earned runs in 10 of his last 11 starts.

The two-time Cy Young winner has a 2-0 record and a 1.42 ERA during that span, with each of those two wins coming by a margin of three runs.

Brewers vs Giants – Same Game Combo (SGP)

DraftKings Logo

Giants -1.5

Blake Snell Over 7.5 strikeouts

LaMonte Wade Jr. Over 0.5 hits

We'll also back Snell in the prop market, as the left-hander ranks in the 97th percentile in whiff rate and 96th percentile in strikeout rate. Snell's strikeout prop currently stands at 7.5, a total he's exceeded in six of his last eight starts.

In a total of 47 career batting appearances against the left-hander, the current Brewers lineup has a staggeringly poor strikeout rate of 36.2% and a whiff rate of 42.2%.

If we're betting on San Francisco winning by two or more runs, we need some hits, too. Enter LaMonte Wade Jr., who has a .333 batting average in six at-bats against Rea. Wade has also scored three goals in his last four games.

Brewers vs Giants Opening Odds

  • Money line: Milwaukee +1.5 (-196) | San Francisco -1.5 (+162)
  • Execute line: Milwaukee +116 | San Francisco -134
  • Over/Under: Over 7 (-105) | Under 7 (-115)

Brewers vs Giants Moneyline and Over/Under Analysis

  • San Francisco entered the race as a -134 favorite and the bets have since risen to -138.
  • The total number started at seven and remained at that number at the time of writing.
  • I believe it is more likely that this total score will increase to 7.5 rather than 6.5, as a total score below seven seems unlikely given Rea's expected decline.
