Local workshop helps parents teach their children to read

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Members of the Ohio Federation of Teachers will hold a training this weekend to teach local parents about literacy strategies and how they can use them to help their child learn to read.

OFT says the training will give parents tools and strategies to reinforce at home the reading instruction their children receive in school.

The training is scheduled to take place on September 14 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Glass City Enrichment Center, 815 Front St.

According to OFT, Metroparks Toledo will be present and offer programs for children while parents attend the training.

Participating families also receive free books for their children’s home libraries.
