Suspected grenade attack triggers panic in posh residential area of ​​Chandigarh

Chandigarh, September 11 (IANS): A suspected grenade attack on the house of a former Punjab police officer in an upscale residential area of ​​Chandigarh by miscreants travelling in an autorickshaw sparked panic in the area on Wednesday.

Dalbir Singh, PRO, Chandigarh Police, said, “An explosion has taken place here. We are investigating it. The CFSL team is at the spot. The incident took place around 6 pm.”

The explosion shattered the windows of the house in the upscale Sector 10 of the city, but no one was injured in the incident.

According to police, three suspects were involved in the attack. While one of them threw the explosives, two others were in the autorickshaw, which was captured on video footage fleeing the scene.

Teams from the fire brigade and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have reached the scene.

It turns out that a retired police officer from Punjab lives in the house. The police suspect him of being the victim.

“There was a loud noise. There was a low-intensity blast explosion which damaged some windows and pots,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur told the media.

“The complainants were sitting on the verandah of the house. They saw the suspects,” the officer said, adding that efforts were on to trace the autorickshaw.

“We are currently investigating all aspects, including the type of explosive, the reason for its placement and its nature,” she added.

Teams from the Bomb Sampling Squad and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CISF) are collecting samples from the crime scene.

According to reports, the explosion left a hole about 12 to 20 centimeters deep.
