Fatal collision in Enderby

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating a fatal car crash Tuesday afternoon on Highway 97A in Enderby.

Chris Terleski, consul for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Vernon North Okanagan, said officers responded to a collision between a bus and a passenger vehicle near the intersection of Highway 97A and Canyon Road in Enderby at around 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 10.

“The results of the initial investigation revealed that a gray Honda Accord traveling northbound on Highway 97A attempted to make a left turn and cross oncoming traffic and was struck on the rear passenger side by a coach traveling southbound on the highway,” Terleski said in an email.

“Two of the three occupants of the Honda were taken away from the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the third occupant did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

According to BC Emergency Health Services, four ambulances, including a rescue helicopter, were deployed.

Paramedics provided emergency medical care to two patients. One was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter. The other was transported to a health facility by ambulance.

Highway 97A was closed for several hours to allow emergency responders to safely complete their work and police to conduct their investigation.

A member of the RCMP's Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (ICARS) team was on site to conduct a full examination of the accident scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
