Harder ceramic shield

The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max feature a new version of the ceramic shield.

The hybrid material is a mixture of glass and ceramic that acts as a screen protector and protects the iPhone from scratches.

According to Apple, the latest generation Ceramic Shield features the most modern glass-ceramic formula. Compared to the first generation, the new ceramic shield is 50 percent harder and twice as hard as the glass of other smartphones.

History Ceramic Sign

The ceramic shield material was introduced four years ago with the iPhone 12 models. The protective shield was developed in collaboration with glass manufacturer Corning, which manufactured Gorilla Glass and is used by competitors such as Samsung.

When the iPhone 16 models are released, there will likely be numerous tests to determine scratch resistance and drop protection. The new iPhone model series will be officially available from September 20, 2024.
