Chase in Shreveport leads to accident and arrest

SHREVEPORT, LA – Arrest in connection with aggravated escape from police

On the night of September 8, around 11:00 p.m., Shreveport Police Department patrol officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Jewella and Cleveland Streets. The driver of the vehicle refused to comply, so officers pursued the vehicle, which fled through the Mooretown neighborhood.

The suspect led officers on a pursuit during which several traffic violations were committed, including running multiple stop signs and red lights. The chase culminated when the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Ockley Drive and East Kings Highway.

Despite repeated requests to surrender, the driver, a 28-year-old Darren Dawsonrefused to exit the vehicle with his hands up. Officers used a police dog to detain Dawson, but he resisted the dog's efforts. After a brief struggle, Dawson was taken into custody.

Dawson was charged with several misdemeanors, including fleeing from an officer, illegal possession of stolen property, resisting an officer, open bottle of alcohol in a vehicle, reckless conduct and driving without a license.

The Shreveport Police Department commends the emergency responders for their quick and professional actions in safely ending this dangerous situation.
