Man from Cork allegedly stabbed Gavin Sheehan with bladed weapon outside cafe in city centre

A man accused of stabbing another man with a gun outside a cafe in Cork city centre on Friday, September 6, appeared via video link from prison on Wednesday.

Sergeant Dave Delea said there were no instructions from the Attorney General in this case yet.

Lawyer Shane Collins-Daly told defendant Aaron Bohane via video link that Judge Mary Dorgan would adjourn the case until September 25 to allow time for instructions from the prosecution service.

Mr Bohane replied: ‘No problem.’ The defendant is from Ballincollig but is currently of no fixed abode.

He is accused of two offences in connection with the investigation into the attack on 38-year-old Gavin Sheehan in Cork at around 5pm on Friday.

Mr Bohane is accused of assaulting Gavin Sheehan on 6 September in Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork, in breach of Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

He is also accused of having drawn a bladed weapon when committing a criminal offence, namely bodily harm resulting in injury, contrary to Section 11 of the Weapons and Assault Weapons Act.

Giving evidence at a special sitting of Cork District Court on Sunday regarding the arrest, charge and caution, Detective Garda Joe Crowley, of Anglesea Street Garda Station, stated that Mr Bohane made no response to the charge after being cautioned.

The defendant has reserved his position on a possible application for bail. Mr Collins-Daly represented him on pro bono legal aid following previous evidence that the defendant was unemployed and in receipt of welfare.
