Continued coverage of a shooting at Omaha Northwest High School

6 News is working to find new information on Tuesday’s school shooting at Omaha Northwest.

A 15-year-old student is in stable condition after being shot inside the school. The alleged shooter is a 14-year-old student.

Classes at Northwest are cancelled Wednesday, but will resume Thursday.

Police believe they have found the weapon with the help of a K-9.

School security has became a focal point after the shooting, with talk of metal detectors and student safety.

We are trying to answer questions regarding the relationship of the victim and alleged shooter, as well as updates on the victim’s condition.

ELECTION 2024: Donald Trump and Kamala Harris debate Tuesday

It is now a sprint to election day after Tuesday’s debate, as the first ballots are going out in Alabama.

The nearly two-hour showdown not only dealt with policy, but also personal attacks from both candidates.

Topics such as the economy, foreign wars, immigration, and reproductive rights were on the table.

AP reports that Harris pressed a more forceful debate against Trump than Biden did on these topics.

Journalists were in the room to fact-check both candidates during the debate.

The next debate will be on Oct. 1 between vice-presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz.

9/11 commemoration events held in Omaha-metro

Omaha’s First Responders Foundation is holding their annual 9/11 luncheon of honor Wednesday.

OPD Chief Todd Schmaderer is the keynote speaker at the event.

The luncheon recognizes community members and organizations that support first responders.

The Council Bluffs Fire Department Honor Guard will be honoring those who lost their lives in 9/11.

It is an open event starting at 8 a.m. at the fire station.

All Nebraska and Iowa flags will be flown at half-staff Wednesday, as ordered by Gov. Pillen and Gov. Reynolds.

The flags are to be flown from sunrise to sunset.

National events held for 9/11

On Wednesday, the U.S. is remembering the lives taken by the 9/11 attacks that happened 23 years ago.

AP reports that though victims are still in focus for the day, politics remain in view for many after Tuesday night’s debate.

Harris and Trump are both expected to attend 9/11 observances Wednesday.

Many national events are happening to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11.

AP says that the anniversary tradition is being handed down to a new generation.

At the Pentagon’s ceremony, the names will be read of the 184 people who were killed there and on Flight 77..

There is also observance at the 9/11 Memorial where names will also be read.

Coverage of rulings of Nebraska Supreme Court petition hearings

6 News is waiting for word from the Nebraska Supreme Court after they heard abortion petition arguments Monday.

On Tuesday, the court heard arguments on school vouchers dealing with public funds being used for private schools.

Medical marijuana has also met key requirements to be on the November ballot. This is the third attempt for medical marijuana in Nebraska.

The court must finalize Nebraska’s ballot by Friday.

Groundbreaking on new Hillside elementary building

Hillside Elementary School is holding a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday.

Work on the new building started over the summer, but staff waited to have a school-wide celebration.

The event is not open to the public.
