Four firefighters injured in car fire explosion in Los Angeles

Five people, including four Los Angeles firefighters, were injured during an explosion at a car fire in the Shadow Hills area Saturday.

Crews were called to North Wheatland Avenue near Sunland Boulevard about 2:30 p.m., according to KCAL.

Three firefighters were initially taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the Los Angeles Fire Department told the station. A fourth firefighter was later taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The department released the following statement: “A fire involving a (conventional gasoline fueled) coupe that contained excessive personal storage is now out.”

The driver of the vehicle was also injured but the extent of their injuries was not released.

An investigation into the fire and incidnet that injured the members is underway.
