Preliminary hearing scheduled for North Platte man charged with false imprisonment and assault

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska (KNOP) – A North Platte man accused of holding a woman hostage for three days appeared in Lincoln County District Court Monday.

Kristopher Weitzel is charged with first-degree false imprisonment, terroristic threatening, use of a deadly weapon to commit a serious felony, third-degree domestic violence with bodily injury, and assault by strangulation or suffocation.

In May, a woman went to the North Platte Police Department and told an officer that Weitzel had held her hostage for three days. When he fell asleep, she fled home and reported the incident.

Weitzel was then involved in a standoff after firing a gun in his home and barricading himself inside. He was later found in an alley and arrested.

His case continued in court on Monday, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 7 at 1:30 p.m.
