Los Angeles (USA) (AFP) – The National Football League is investigating new allegations of sexual assault against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson in a civil lawsuit, the league announced on Tuesday.

“We are reviewing the complaint and will investigate the matter under the rules of conduct,” an NFL spokesman confirmed.

The lawsuit, filed in Texas, alleges that Watson sexually assaulted a woman in her apartment in October 2020.

The lawsuit states that the woman went into her bathroom to put on makeup and came out to find Watson lying naked face down on her bed.

The NFL star asked her to massage his butt, and when she started rubbing his back, he turned around and asked her to massage his groin area.

Before she could answer, Watson partially undressed the woman, sexually assaulted her, and then stormed out of her apartment.

The allegations come just over two years after Watson was suspended for 11 games and fined $5 million in August 2022 for violating the NFL's conduct rules after about 25 women accused him of sexual misconduct during private massage sessions.

He then reached a settlement with 23 of his accusers.

The woman who made the latest allegations against him was not among his original accusers, US media reports said on Tuesday.

Two grand juries in Texas heard complaints against Watson in 2022 but declined to bring charges against him.

Watson left the Houston Texans two years ago in a blockbuster trade for Cleveland, making him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.
