Trial after accident drama in Chemnitz! Truck driver runs over blind friend while manoeuvring

According to the indictment, Ronald M. is said to have overlooked the blind Fred M. (60) while reversing his truck on Rosenweg near the Reichenbrand brewery at around 6 a.m. on November 20, 2023.

The 60-year-old was then hit by the right rear side of the truck, fell and was run over by the right rear wheels and the front wheel. Fred M. died at the scene of the accident.

Roland M. was shocked when he confessed: “I had known the victim for over 25 years.”

On the day of the incident, he carried out the departure check properly at the start of his shift. When maneuvering the vehicle, visibility was severely impaired by darkness and rain. He did not notice the victim in the rear-view mirrors or the reversing camera.

In addition, the victim, who was also hearing impaired, was apparently not wearing his hearing aids at the time of the accident. His guide dog was apparently not wearing a special harness.

A police officer who was called as a witness confirmed that the defendant was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime.

The victim’s widow is expected to testify as a witness at the next hearing.
