Melania Trump hints at conspiracy theory about assassination attempt on her husband

Former First Lady Melania Trump openly questioned Tuesday why law enforcement failed to stop a gunman before he attacked former President Donald Trump at one of his campaign rallies earlier this summer, adding, “There is definitely more to this story.”

In a video promoting the release of her new memoir, “Melania,” due out next month, Melania Trump shared her feelings about the assassination attempt on the former president.

“The attempt to end my husband's life was a horrific, agonizing experience,” she said. “Now the silence about it is oppressive. I wonder why the police didn't arrest the shooter before the speech. There is definitely more to this story and we need to find out the truth.”

The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, managed to fire eight times before he was killed by a Secret Service sniper on July 13. The shooting occurred while the former president was giving a speech at an outdoor campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Donald Trump's right ear was injured in the attack. The shooting left one person dead and two others injured.

FBI officials have not yet been able to find a motive for the shooter, but they believe he acted alone.

Last month, Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Pittsburgh field office, said Crooks had searched for both Donald Trump and President Joe Biden online. Rojek added that the gunman viewed the Pennsylvania rally as a “target of opportunity.”

US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned immediately after the shooting and took “full responsibility for the security breach” after bipartisan pressure was put on her to leave her post.

Meanwhile, according to Punchbowl News, a bipartisan task force investigating the attempted assassination of Donald Trump has received the shooter's medical records.

“I don't know if that's in any way revealing, because you're not going to learn much about his past or what he was thinking the day he did all this,” Republican Rep. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania, the task force chairman, told the news agency.

Although Melania Trump rarely appeared on the campaign trail this election season, she was present at the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee in July.
