Hollywood veterans play the leading roles in the TV series “JonBenet Ramsey”

Oscar nominees Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen star in a new miniseries about the 1996 murder of JonBenét Ramsey.

The A-listers will portray JonBenét's parents, Patsy and John Ramsey, and have been described as an “extraordinary duo” who delve deep into the tragic story.

The eight-part series, which airs on Paramount Plus, delves into the gruesome murder of JonBenét, who was six years old when she died in the basement of her family's home in Boulder, Colorado.

An autopsy revealed that JonBenét was killed by strangulation and a skull fracture. No one was charged for her killing.

“Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen are an exceptional duo to tackle this tragic story that has cast a long, haunting shadow over American culture for nearly three decades,” said Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global.

The series also follows the Ramseys as they grapple with their grief while also facing intense public scrutiny.

The official description of the show states: “At its heart, the series is the story of Patsy and John Ramsey, exploring the unbreakable partnership of these two complex people – as husband and wife, as mother and father – who committed themselves and their children to building the story of a perfect, privileged life, only to see it shattered on a Christmas night in 1996.”

Filming is set to begin soon in Calgary, Canada. A broadcast date has not yet been announced.

Nearly three decades later, the murder of her childhood beauty pageant queen remains one of America's most fascinating unsolved cases.

The news comes after JonBenét's heartbroken father John, 80, recently asked why police had not conducted DNA tests on several key items.

I don’t know why they didn’t test it right away,” said John True crime news.

“As far as I know, it hasn't been tested yet. If they test it and just don't tell me, that's great, but I have no reason to believe that.”

A DNA sample was found on the garrote used to strangle her, reportedly from an unidentified man.

In September, a police insider told the US news website The Messenger that “several people are on the radar…new persons of interest.”

“And we're looking into whether one of them is the key to solving this case. Time will tell if we get the answers we need. This is a marathon, not a sprint.”

In 2021, Boulder Police announced that they had begun analyzing nearly 1,000 DNA samples.

Investigators said they interviewed more than 1,000 people in 19 states who may be connected to the case.
