10-year-old girl kidnapped and raped in Palghar; police arrest two | Mumbai News

Mumbai: A 10-year-old girl from Palghar District was allegedly attacked by two men in her Late 30s when I came home after witnessing a Arrival procession of Ganesh statue before the festival last week. The men were arrested.
The matter came to light when the girl returned home at around 10:20 p.m. on September 2nd in tattered clothes. When questioned by her mother, she revealed the sexual abuse. Police investigation revealed that the girl had run out of the house to celebrate the idol's arrival with other children. On her way home, she was stopped by two men she knew who lived in the same area.
The men engaged the girl in conversation and then forcibly took her to a secluded place some distance away where they sexually abused her. The men released the girl and she came home. Her parents, who had been searching for her, were shocked to see her condition. Blood stains were also found on her private parts. The girl revealed the names of the men. The family approached the police and filed a complaint of gang rape and kidnapping under sections of the Pocso Act. They were remanded in police custody by the local court.
Police said the accused were arrested nearby after being tracked down through their mobile phones. Police are investigating whether the men were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime and whether they have any previous criminal record. Police said the crime scene has been identified and the girl has undergone a medical examination; the report is pending. Last month, a 30-year-old teacher was arrested for sexually abusing his 14-year-old student at a school and a tutoring class in the district. Later, the school's principal and headmaster were also arrested.
