Honor and AI: Deepfake detection, AI assistant and more

Honor and AI: Deepfake detection, AI assistant and more

IFA2024

Honor unveiled three mobile AI solutions at IFA 2024: AI PC with Snapdragon X Elite platforms, AI Agent and AI Deepfake Detection.

The PC landscape is undergoing a radical change, driven by advances in AI and not least by the rise of Snapdragon platforms, which are now also being used in laptops – for example the Honor MagicBook 14 Snapdragon.

The notebook offers AI functions and transfers the light and slim characteristics of smartphones to laptops and, with a weight of around 1 kg and a thickness of 1 cm, is the lightest and slimmest AI PC on the market. The MagicBook Art 14 Snapdragon has a 14.6-inch HONOR FullView Touch display with a 3.1K resolution. The MagicBook Art 14 Snapdragon is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite, which Honor says is at the forefront in terms of performance, efficiency and security.

Honor has managed to create a smooth transition from Windows applications based on the X86 architecture to the “Windows on Snapdragon” architecture. Based on the research, Honor has developed a so-called Hotspot library that uses platform-level AI to identify frequently used scenarios and trigger efficient translation optimization.

Honor says it has improved the average boot time by 16% with translation optimization in a variety of Windows applications. Currently, Honor has optimized a total of 14 applications in six main categories, including browsers, online meetings, media, office, social software and tools.

It is currently unknown when the Honor MagicBook Art 14 Snapdragon will be available in Germany. The same applies to the price.

Honor MagicRing connects devices and services

Another Honor development is MagicRing. The feature is designed to make it possible to connect devices regardless of the operating system. The only requirement is that the same user account is on both devices. MagicRing not only connects devices, but also services between the devices. The solution also enables users to use the same keyboard and mouse for multiple devices, receive calls and notifications on a device other than the smartphone, and control the smartphone's camera on the PC.

And the AI experience is also set to benefit. For example, Cocreator, one of the signature scenarios for Windows on Snapdragon, allows the user to create artworks using simple drawings. For example, with MagicRing, users can seamlessly access Cocreator on their Honor MagicPad 2 and draw AI images using their Magic Pencil. Meanwhile, you can also use AI Eraser from the Honor Magic V3 on the Honor MagicBook Art 14 Snapdragon. It remains to be seen how well the feature actually works.

The personal AI assistant

But that's not all the AI features. The Honor AI Agent is a personal assistant designed to improve and simplify users' daily lives. The AI agent, which understands users' wishes and intentions through speech analysis and UI awareness technology, learns from their habits and the device environment and can make intelligent decisions across different apps and services. This ability makes it possible to automate complex tasks. At the IFA, for example, Honor demonstrated how you can find and cancel unwanted app subscriptions in various apps with a few simple voice commands on your smartphone.

It is expected to be released in China together with the Honor Magic7 series later this year.

Another interesting technology from Honor: Deepfake detection. And as the technology behind deepfakes becomes more sophisticated, the potential for abuse, including identity theft and the spread of disinformation, increases significantly. Honor's on-device AI Deepfake Detection is a solution designed to protect users from deepfakes. The detection system uses algorithms to analyze various elements, including synthetic imperfections at the pixel level, artifacts when compositing edges, continuity between frames, consistency of hairstyle from face to ear, and the positioning of synthetic tracks.

By examining these characteristics, Honor says the technology can identify manipulated content and distinguish between real media and fraudulent changes. Interestingly, the whole thing is supposed to work “on device” and not with the help of cloud computing power.
