Himani Shivpuri recalls disturbing incident with Alok Nath: “Was asked to leave the plane due to drunken behaviour”

Once popular actor Alok Nath found himself at the centre of controversy when several women came forward with allegations of sexual harassment and assault. One of the most serious allegations came from a veteran screenwriter and producer who filed a complaint against him under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.

Nath vehemently denied these allegations, but his reputation was irreparably ruined. Even his former co-star Himani Shivpuri shared her own experiences with the actor, revealing that he often behaved erratically when drunk. Shivpuri recounted an incident from their early days at the National School of Drama, where Nath displayed inappropriate behaviour.

During a conversation with Siddharth Kanan, Shivpuri explained that Nath becomes a completely different person when he is drunk. “I have worked with him a lot in the past and the thing about him is that he is sanskari when he is not drinking. His personality was like that of Jekyll and Hyde,” she said. The actor further recalled the time when they travelled abroad with Nath's wife for an award function and he was asked to leave the plane due to his drunken behaviour.

Speaking about her own experience, Shivpuri said, “Apart from one incident at NSD, I never had any problems with him. But I heard from people that he was a different person after a few drinks.”

In 2018, Nath – widely known for his “sanskaari” image on screen – was accused by a veteran television writer and producer of sexually harassing her nearly two decades ago. “I have been waiting for this moment for 19 years,” the woman wrote in a Facebook post, describing the “sexual offender in question” as “the quintessential actor known as the 'sanskaari' (most sophisticated) person in the film and television industry.”

“He was an alcoholic, shameless and obnoxious, but he was also the TV star of that decade, so not only was all his bad behavior forgiven, but many of the guys encouraged him to do his worst,” she added, mentioning that he also harassed the show's lead actress, who had no interest in him.
