Funeral details confirmed for 30-year-old woman killed in tragic car crash in Donegal

Details of the funeral of a young woman who died in a tragic collision last week have been confirmed.

Donna McDermott died in a two-vehicle collision at Quigley's Point, Co Donegal on Friday 6 September.

The driver, a 70-year-old woman, and the passenger, a 50-year-old man, were both taken from the scene to Atnagalvin and Letterkenny University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Ms McDermott, believed to be in her 30s, was the only fatality in the crash.

At the time of the collision, Ms. McDermott was sitting in the back seat of the car.

Funeral details for a young woman who died in a tragic accident on Friday 6 September have been confirmed.

Mrs McDermott, who was described as a “ray of sunshine” by the local community, leaves behind her mother Mary, her sister Danielle, her brothers Brendan, Brian and Richard, and her partner Robert.

Her obituary on Rip.ie states: “Donna McDermott of Ballymacarthur, Greencastle has tragically passed away. She has been predeceased by her father Brendan and beloved daughter Mary. Her brothers and sisters Brendan, Brian, Danielle and Richard, Donna's partner Robert, Donna's sister-in-law Margaret and brothers-in-law Will, Nikita and Andrea are deeply saddened by her passing.

“Her nieces Anna and Megen, her nephew Charlie, the extended family and many friends and neighbours deeply regret her passing and will miss her terribly.”

Tributes continue to pour in for the Ballymacarthur native, who is described as a “valued” member of his community.

Local Greencastle Regatta Festival organisation wrote: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Donna McDermott, a valued former committee member of the Greencastle Regatta. Donna's dedication and warmth left a lasting impression on all who were privileged to know her. She was a beloved daughter, sister, partner and friend whose memory will be cherished forever.”

Another family member paid tribute to Ms McDermott on social media, writing: “My poor little cousin Donna, may she rest in peace. [rest in peace]. She was such a lively, bubbly girl, always up for some fun – we will miss her very much. She is back in the loving arms of her hero, her dad Brendan. Prayers for Aunt Mary and her family as they face difficult days ahead. Love to them all.'

A third wrote: “I am shocked and saddened by this tragic news. Donna was such a vibrant and fun-loving person. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her entire family: her mother Mary, her brothers and sister, our beloved daughter-in-law Danielle.”

Mrs McDermott will lie in state at home between 11am and 9pm today, September 10, before her requiem and burial at St Mary's Church, Ballybrack.

Details of her funeral were confirmed on Rip.ie: “Donna will lie in state at the family home from 11am-9pm on Tuesday where everyone is welcome to pay their respects. Traffic restrictions apply, details to follow.

“On Wednesday morning (September 11th) the funeral will take place privately at the family home. The funeral service will take place from there at 10:30 a.m. The funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church in Ballybrack. The burial will then take place in Ballybrack Cemetery.”
