An asylum accommodation facility in Schönau im Mühlkreis was completely destroyed in a fire on Tuesday night. Several residents were taken to hospital due to smoke poisoning.

According to media reports, a fire broke out in a former guesthouse in Schönau im Mühlkreis on Tuesday night at around 1 a.m. The accommodation, which was used as an asylum home, was immediately uninhabitable due to the fire. Fire service and evacuation

The fire brigade was able to bring the fire under control, but the inn burned down completely. Around 200 firefighters were on duty for around two hours. The nearby neighboring houses were protected thanks to the quick and comprehensive measures taken by the emergency services. A nearby extinguishing water tank made the work of the firefighters easier, but alarm level 3 was declared in order to fight the fire effectively.

Several people with Smoke poisoning

All asylum seekers were able to escape from the burning building in time. However, six residents suffered from smoke inhalation and had to be taken to hospital for medical treatment. The total of 16 residents of the accommodation were temporarily housed in the parish hall. The exact cause of the fire is currently unclear and is being investigated by the investigating authorities.
