Andrea Bocelli remembers a football accident that left him blind

Washington [US]September 9 (ANI): Famous singer Andrea Bocelli has recalled a football accident that led to his visual impairment, reported People.

The documentary film “Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe”, which revolves around his life, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Italian tenor recounted how, as a young boy, he went blind after a football accident, after suffering from glaucoma.

“As a child, I was considered extremely short-sighted. I could see everything, but only up close,” the experienced singer said in a documentary.

He added: “I remember very well the world I saw. Colors, everything. How could I forget these memories?” Andrea's brother Alberto also spoke about his trip.

“My brother Andrea, 3 1/2 years old, underwent 13 operations in Turin for congenital glaucoma,” he said, adding: “It was agony.” Alberto said that at the age of 7, the singer was sent to a boarding school specifically for the visually impaired because no local school was willing to accept him.

“He only came home for the holidays. We visited him once a month,” he said. Andrea said that these were the “worst” moments of his life.

The situation became even worse when, at the age of 12, he experienced a tragic incident at school that left him completely blind.

At 12, the singer had an incident at boarding school that left him permanently blind. “One day, I was playing soccer as a goalkeeper. I don't know why, because I had never been a goalkeeper before,” he said, adding, “And I would never be a goalkeeper again. A ball hit me in the face. That hit caused a hemorrhage… and the rest is history.” Alberto added, “That's when he lost. That's when darkness fell.” “Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe” was directed by Cosima Spender. According to the description of the documentary, it “follows Bocelli's path to success and his continued dedication to his craft through interviews and archival footage of performances and informal meetings,” People reported.
