Last Saturday, a 45-year-old mountaineer suffered a fatal fall – probably from the jagged ridge – on the Fuchskarspitze mountain, high above the Prinz-Luitpold-Haus, in the Hintersteiner Valley near Bad Hindelang in steep rocky terrain.

Bad Hindelang – Last Saturday morning, a 45-year-old mountaineer set out on a challenging mountain tour including a ridge crossing to the 2,314 m high Fuchskarspitze in the Hintersteiner Valley near Bad Hindelang.

According to the Sonthofen police, the 45-year-old was in constant cell phone contact with his family during his mountain tour until Saturday afternoon.

However, when the man did not show up at the agreed meeting point in the afternoon, relatives reported him missing at around 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Hinterstein mountain rescue service, the mountain rescue drone team, the Alpine task force of the Swabia South/West police headquarters and a police helicopter squadron were immediately called to the scene and searched for the missing hiker well into the night.

Dangerous search operation into the night

However, since a nighttime search in the high alpine terrain is very dangerous, the emergency services interrupted their search for the missing person on Sunday night in order to continue it early Sunday morning.

Finally, a police helicopter discovered the 45-year-old below the ridge of the Fuchskarspitze and alerted the rescue helicopter and the Hindelang mountain rescue service. Unfortunately, an emergency doctor on site could only confirm the mountaineer's death. The Alpine task force recovered the man's body with the help of the police helicopter.

The police assume that the 45-year-old probably fell from the jagged ridge and sustained fatal injuries in the rocky terrain.
