4-year-old California girl bitten to death by family's pit bull in heartbreaking tragedy

A tragic incident occurred in Visalia, California, where a 4-year-old girl named “Princess Zoey” lost her life after being attacked by her family's pit bull. The attack occurred just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when Visalia Police officers responded to a 911 call from a home in West Monte Vista, according to a police press release.

Zoey Hawkins, the toddler's full name, had just finished swimming and was inside the house when the attack occurred, local media outlet KMPH Fox 26 confirmed. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to the hospital, Zoey tragically succumbed to her injuries.

An investigation by violent crimes unit investigators found no evidence of neglect or criminal wrongdoing, according to the police report. “This heartbreaking event is a tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this incredibly difficult time,” the Visalia police statement said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the grieving family cover funeral and memorial costs. The description on the page described the devastating loss: “Zoey tragically lost her life to a devastating dog attack,” adding that the family is “heartbroken.”

The post, shared on behalf of Zoey's parents Eric and Alexis, expressed the family's gratitude for any support during this unimaginable time. “Funds raised through this campaign will be used to cover funeral and memorial service costs to ensure she receives a fitting and heartfelt farewell,” the message said.

Any additional funds raised will go directly to the family to help ease the financial burden they are facing. “Please consider contributing to this fund if it will help ease the hardship of Zoey's family and honor the memory of our precious little girl who touched so many lives,” the post concluded.

As of Saturday afternoon, the GoFundMe page had already raised nearly $4,500, with supporters offering their condolences and support during this heartbreaking time.
