Man accused of fatal shooting outside Plush Lounge to appear in court Monday

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

A man accused of a fatal shooting outside the Plush nightclub will appear before a judge at the Boone County Courthouse at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Kimo Spivey, 34, is accused of shooting Melvin Hooker III outside the Plush Nightclub in 2023 before it closed.

In May, the charges against Spivey were upgraded from second-degree premeditated murder to first-degree murder, along with three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

Two other men are also charged in the shooting. Samuel Moss Jr., 29, of Columbia, pleaded guilty in April to unlawful use of a weapon and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Justin Lamar Simpson, 41, was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to the report, a witness told police that Hooker got into an argument with a group of people and then went to his car to get a gun. Moss reportedly had a gun drawn and approached Hooker.

Spivey was then allegedly observed walking in Hooker's direction and beginning to shoot at him.
