One dead in armed attack in Lagos

Unknown armed men shot dead a 20-year-old man in Okokomaiko, Ojo Local Government Area of ​​Lagos State on Friday.

The victim is said to have been pursued by the attackers, who caught up with him and shot him several times.

State police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro on Sunday, saying it occurred at about 9pm and that the victim was shot in the head, abdomen and leg.

Hundeyin added that police were informed of the crime that same evening and quickly responded to the scene.

He said: “We received information from concerned citizens that at about 9pm at Abeokuta Street, Okokomaiko, Ojo, Lagos, four unknown armed men were observed chasing a young man in the area and firing several shots at him on the head, stomach and legs until he died.

“After committing the crime, they left the body behind and fled while fleeing to an unknown destination. Immediately after receiving the information, the anti-crime team visited the crime scene.”

According to Hundeyin, when the police arrived at the scene, they encountered an adult woman who identified herself as Vivian and who was proven to be the mother of the deceased.

He further stated that the photograph of the deceased was taken on the spot and that the body was evacuated and taken to the mortuary of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Yaba Local Government Area of ​​the state.

“Investigations are ongoing and efforts are being made to trace the absconding suspects for possible arrest and prosecution while the case is forwarded for further and discreet investigation,” he added.
